Previously, there was Food Force (popular it is too!). Now there's also the new Stop Disasters! Game - I love the very practical name - a web game designed to get kids to understand how to mitigate disasters of the large sort, mainly environmental ones. Gamasutra reports: According to the UN, the game takes place across a variety of missions with specific budgets and time limits to save the most lives and livelihoods during simulated hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, tsunamis or wildfire strikes. I wonder if there's an eco message in there too? It's currently in English only, but multi-language support, and DVD distro, is coming soon. "If we teach them about disaster risk reduction from an early age," he added, "they will understand why it is vital to build houses, schools and hospitals in safe locations, to have early warning systems in place and reduce disasters." Good point. On an aside, in googling for screenies for this post, I came across the interesting ICT for Peacebuilding blog. Useful. www.wonderlandblog.com/wonderland/2007/03/another_free_ga.html
