The Star Online TechCentral pullout has been running a few articles on the recent game development workshop organised by the Multimedia Development Corporation in KL. It's a simple general guide in developing a game, and yesterday's article (not yet online) talked about the different types of engines available to aspiring developers.
As useful as the guide may be, I think the Star TechCentral could present a more helpful article on how to get started in the industry. Malaysians are a very talented lot, and one of the major barriers that people usually encounter when they wanted to enter the game industry is knowing how to get their foot in the game industry door, which the article doesn't explain. If they do a follow-up article on how to get recruited, then it would be a real killer feature article.
Speaking of which, the 2nd Asian Game Developer Summit will start tomorrow in Singapore. Entry isn't cheap (SGD200!), though GaX Singapore is apparently giving away passes to 5 lucky commentators (3 people have commented, so another 2 more passes left?). Even if you can't make the Saturday keynote and track sessions, you can still make it for the Sunday sessions which should yield lots of useful info. To get an idea of what the summit is like, you can check out my coverage of the first one held in KL last year.
I'm seriously thinking of driving down to Singapore and checking out the Sunday session. Hmm...I need to make some inquiries...
EDIT - Okay, I've decided: I'll be taking a bus down to Singapore tomorrow to attend the tracks on Sunday. Thankfully Monday is a holiday so I get to take my time going back on that day. Gotta start packing now, so later!
