The Truth about Violent Youth and Video Games

Thanks to the current media frenzy and barrage of lawsuits surrounding violent video games, I can�t tell people what I do for a living without getting a lecture on the current plague of youth violence and the scourge that is Grand Theft Auto. I decided it was time for a rebuttal more effective than shrugging and saying, �Well, I think you�re wrong.�

So I sat down to write this article, and started doing some research. What I discovered startled me. I'm not sure I have the ability to write a totally serious piece - it is not in my nature to be serious, nor the nature of GR - but the issues are very serious indeed and the evidence is very real.

I am even going to use charts. With words on 'em. We spare no expense.

First off, I have absolute proof that video games are not the cause of this epidemic of youth violence in America. No, really, I do. Ready?

There is no epidemic of youth violence in America.

The whole concept is a lie manufactured, distributed and perpetuated by the media. Kids are not killing each other more frequently than they used to. In fact, it turns out the opposite is true.

I say its always up to the parents. Just the media likes to blow things out of the water of course.

I was already saying that games are a RELEASE, and not a METHOD, for anger. Media is a trigger, there has to already be a bullet in the chamber!

I would have posted this...but you know me not knowing the link and all...

BUT ANYWAY, I feel that to get people to join you in a cause such as this you need to scare them. So you only tell people stories about the horrible acts tht a microscopic amount of humans have done that happen to be related to video games. You must NEVER tell them the nice acts such as the Penny Arcade charity Child's Play bringing games to childrens hospitals, NEVER I SAY!!!

But hey almost EVERY single for of entertainment went the through the morality microscope. Rock and Roll, Comic books, to Heavy Metal music. This is just what up next, pretty soon it'll probably be myspace or something.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who has read this article. This just goes to show that if you don't know anything about a popular medium, to sit down and invest some time into it before making complete and utter asinine statements.

Politicians have always been a pain to me, one of the reasons I don't vote, but when they delegate something they know nothing about, it goes to repeat history.

Rock n roll, Ninja Turtles, movies, rap music and now video games.

Unfortunately this will never end........
