Popular syndicated newspaper columnist John Rosemond, a specialist in child-rearing and family psychology, has turned his attention on “nefarious” games consoles.Writing this week in his column, he answers a question from a concerned parent, whose son is falling behind in school, but who plays on an Xbox. Rosemond, who is syndicated in over 200 newspapers and has authored 12 parenting books, is unequivocal in his advice, “Take that nefarious device and toss it,” he writes. “Make the Xbox disappear, permanently.” Rosemond says that, in his experience almost all failing male students are involved in playing videogames, while female students re often spending time on instant messaging. He adds, “The problem is that unlike a drug problem, this particular addiction is legal. As one counsellor pointed out, "Parents seem to think that as long as their children are at home and safe, then they are OK. They don't seem to notice the subtle declines in creativity, affect, motivation and simple thought processes (associated with video game addiction)." www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4763&Itemid=2
