British Government Makes Token Anti-Piracy CommitmentThe British government is continuing their centuries-long stoush with pirates, announcing that they're giving the Intellectual Property Crime Group more cash and more powers to help bring law and order to the streets, and car boot sales, of the United Kingdom. The new powers bring into force Section 107a of the Copyright, Designs, and Patents Act 1988, which gives enforcement officers the power to make test purchases and to enter premises and seize goods and documents. Is giving glorified civil servants the powers to bust into people's houses that good an idea? Call me crazy, but I thought that was the police's job.
