North American stores Electronic Boutiques and GameStop are to begin taking pre-orders for Bungie’s keenly awaited Halo 3, revealing that the title is set to see retail release in an unprecedented three different packages. The basic edition of the game is priced at $59.99 with pre-orders requiring a $5 deposit. The game will, like Halo 2 and many subsequent high profile Xbox and Xbox 360 titles, also be available as part of a Collector’s Edition, priced at $69.99 and requiring a $10 pre-order deposit at stores. Details of the contents of the Collector’s Edition are unavailable but the Halo 2 version included a number of behind the scenes videos and artwork presentations in a collectible tin box. The final version of the game is described as the Legendary Edition (a reference to the game’s hardest difficulty setting). This version of the game is priced at $99.99 with a $25 deposit required. The Legendary Edition will come on four discs and will include all the content of the Collector’s Edition plus unspecified extras and a Master Chief helmet replica. The release date for all three versions of the game is listed as November 1st, 2007 – although no official announcement on a date has been made by Microsoft and the date is likely a placeholder by the stores. www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11512
