if you want to make some portfolio stuff AND make some money, then I have a solution, four letters IMVU, look into it, the ONLY downside is that it is more for portfolio, and less for money, (as it has a start-up fee for developing).
The general schill: you use 3ds Max to make stuff, textures -> body parts (the WHOLE spectrum) and if people buy them, you get money.
The idea is that each thing you make sells for like 300 credits, which is 30 cents. but there are 7.8 million people on this site, and knowing that, the average item has AT LEAST 10,000 hits
.3 * 10,000 = $3,000. Realize however that this is not an ALL AT ONCE thing, it comes slowly, and PROBABLY has a tax to it, I have only read into it, not ACTUALLY done anything yet...
